Inverellum - 36 Keswick Street, Morningside

Foreign nationals/refugees are the latest victims at the hands of unscrupulous landlords and their agents. Tenants are locked out and their belongings either illegally seized or thrown into the streets. OCR members have to spend weekends counselling traumatised tenants, risking their own lives. The modus operandi of these unscrupulous landlords and their agents is similar to criminals who take the law into their own hands. OCR would be holding a public meeting in Durban followed by a public meeting in Cape Town to inform foreign nationals/refugees of their rights as well as their obligations and duties as tenants.

We, as South Africans need to recognise the dignity of people.

Three tenants (foreign nationals from the Congo) occupy flat 9, building called: Inverallan, 36 Keswick Street, Morningside, Durban: Issa (Wao/Patrick) Omari, Lumvi Cubaka , Ibrahim Ndejeje.

They were prevented entry to their flats - they were distraught: nowhere to go and attempts to get the South African Police Services (SAPS) to intervene was a dehumanising experience. The police told them to go back home.

They managed to break the lock and regain possession of the flat.

Friday May 05 2006
At about 21h00 Ibrahim Ndejeje was assaulted by unknown men.
